Dr. Michael Garbe

Dr. Michael Garbe is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, specializing in working with individuals who would like to have spirituality integrated into their therapeutic process.

Having experienced, processed, and integrated, a spiritual crisis of his own, Dr. Garbe has become an expert in assisting others through their spiritual challenges. He has come to understand that healing through a spiritual crisis is similar to healing through any life crisis, and that spiritual healing is the healing of traumatic experiences.

Dr. Garbe’s training is trauma informed and focused, including the use of psychodynamic and mind-body oriented therapies to assist in the healing process. Furthermore, he has years of experience working with codependent behaviors, including substance abuse. He teaches Individual, Group, Family, and Couples Therapy, at a University Level, and practices these modalities in his private practice.

Along with his clinical work, due to having had difficulty finding professional assistance during his spiritual crisis, Dr. Garbe has dedicated himself to increasing spiritual competence within the helping professions. He has authored a chapter in a social work textbook, on the topic of “spiritual emergency”. He is on the Board of Directors, of The American Center for the Integration of Spiritually Transformative Experiences (ACISTE). He has presented at National Conferences, on the topic of Spiritual Emergency, and hopes to continue to increase competence in this area of interest.
